MOYLAN SELECTED TO CO-CHAIR THE PHILIPPINES-FRIENDSHIP CAUCUS
(Hagatna, Guam) Delegate James Moylan was advised that he was selected to be the Republican Co-Chair of the bi-partisan Philippines-Friendship Caucus (PFC) in the House of Representatives. He will be leading the caucus along with Representative Bobby Scott, who represents the 3rd Congressional District of Virginia. The primary objective of the caucus is to address issues of mutual benefit to both the United States and the Philippines.
With the United States and Philippine governments modernizing an alliance to enhance prosperity and security for both nations, the timing is also ideal for focusing on issues that mutually benefit both Guam and the Philippines. Some of the topics Delegate Moylan will advocate for within the PFC would include, but not be limited to 1). a Guam only visa waiver for Philippine citizens, 2). Medicare portability, 3). The Filipino Veterans Fairness Act, and 4). Furthering opportunities for H1B visas for medical professionals. He will also be seeking the caucus’s support for the extension of the H2B visas program, which is vital for Guam’s economy, and his amendment was added to the Senate’s NDAA.
“We are excited to be selected to co-chair the Philippine-Friendship caucus in the House, as there are many critical issues for our community that require an enhancement of this relationship, hence would be mobilized through this caucus. Our office is committed to setting the path to allow for Medicare portability, to allow those who retire on island and seek to relocate to the Philippines to be able to access Medicare. Guam also joins the nation in facing shortages of medical professionals, and advocating for a simplified process to secure H1B visas would also be an issue I will be bringing to the forefront,” stated Delegate Moylan.
In July, Delegate Moylan hosted the President of the Philippines Senate, Juan Miguel Zubiri, in the House of Representatives and discussed key issues mutually beneficial to Guam and the Philippines. President Zubiri will be seeking support legislatively from his colleagues once the proposals are in place.
