FEMA PROVIDES FLEXIBILITY WITH TIMELINES FOR AWARD APPEALS PROCESS
(Washington, D.C.) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently responded to an inquiry submitted by Delegate James Moylan in September to obtain more information related to island residents making appeals towards their disaster assistance awards from Typhoon Mawar. Concerns were raised by several residents that the 60-day timeline to gather all appeal information was quite challenging, inclusive of securing a contractor to obtain an estimate.
“FEMA has clarified that for those making an appeal of their assistance award are not subject to submitting all necessary appeal information within the 60-day timeline, but rather the applicant may submit what is available at the time. This is just to get their appeals process rolling prior to the statutory deadline. The assigned caseworker shall then work with the applicant to determine if additional information is needed. Extensions can also be provided if conveyed accordingly,” stated Delegate Moylan. “We appreciate the response of FEMA on our inquiry, and more importantly, thank them for their flexibility. The process of applying for disaster relief, let alone an appeal, is very daunting; hence, any support is welcome. If any resident has questions or concerns with their appeals process, they can reach our office at 671-922-6673 to obtain some assistance,” added Delegate Moylan.
